U.S. Senator Steve Daines announced that several of his legislative priorities have passed the Senate as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The legislation includes a pay raise for military personnel, improvements to Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) authorities, funding for Malmstrom Air Force Base, and construction authorizations for the Montana National Guard. The NDAA will now proceed to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
“America’s military is the best fighting force in the world and Montana service members are the best warriors in the country. This bill ensures our military maintains President Trump’s ‘peace through strength’ strategy by giving our troops a much-deserved pay raise, providing improvements to the Basic Allowance for Housing, travel reimbursement for the National Guard, and providing funding for Malmstrom Air Force Base,” said Daines.
Senator Daines represents Montana in the U.S. Senate and has held this position since 2015. He grew up in Bozeman, Montana, where he attended public schools as a fifth-generation Montanan and later earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Montana State University. Before entering politics, he worked in management at Procter & Gamble and served as an executive at a Bozeman-based software company.
Daines participates in several Senate committees including finance, foreign relations, energy and natural resources, and Indian affairs. His offices provide constituent services across multiple cities in Montana such as Bozeman, Great Falls, Helena, Billings, Missoula, Kalispell and Sidney as well as Washington, D.C. He has also received recognition from the Congressional Management Foundation for transparency and office practices.
