U.S. Senator Steve Daines, who chairs the European Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was present at the White House for the signing of a peace agreement and joint declaration between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The event also included Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and President Trump.
The agreement aims to promote stability in the South Caucasus region. In addition to the peace accord, related bilateral agreements were signed, and an initiative called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity was announced. This initiative is intended to support regional stability and provide benefits for both American citizens and businesses.
Senator Daines had previously traveled to Azerbaijan and Armenia in May with members of President Trump’s team to help prepare for this agreement.
“Today’s agreement is a remarkable achievement and another step toward stability in the south Caucasus that advances international peace for the region as well as the United States. I commend President Trump and his team for combining the President’s peace-through-strength model with pragmatic, creative diplomacy in order to unlock the promise of brighter days ahead for both countries. President Trump kept his promise of America first through this process and the American people and the world will be better off for it,” said Daines.
Daines has published an op-ed about this agreement in The Wall Street Journal.
