U.S. Senator Tim Sheehy (R-Mont.) visited Three Forks and Manhattan, Montana, to hold town halls and informational sessions with students interested in attending United States Service Academies. During these events, Sheehy spoke about the value of leadership, service, and the opportunities available through military academies.
“My wife and I met at the Naval Academy. We were proud to serve our country, and we both know how rewarding it is to live a life of service after attending a service academy. That’s why I’m encouraging the next generation of Montanans to serve and educating kids on all the possibilities they have by attending a service academy or joining the military. There’s no higher calling in life than serving your country, and it is my honor to help young Montanans reach their full potential and nominate the next generation of warfighters for appointment to the U.S. Service Academies,” said Senator Sheehy.
Students from Montana who are interested in applying to a United States Service Academy must submit applications directly to their chosen academy as well as apply for a Congressional Nomination. These appointments are competitive and consider academic performance, physical fitness, extracurricular involvement, leadership qualities, motivation, and aptitude for military service. Graduates are required to serve in the military for five years after completing their education.
The deadline for Fall 2026 admission applications is November 1, 2025. More information on nominations can be found at https://www.sheehy.senate.gov/services/academy-nominations/.
In March, President Donald J. Trump appointed Senator Sheehy to the United States Naval Academy Board of Visitors. The board is responsible for reviewing aspects such as morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction methods, equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and other matters concerning the academy.
Senator Sheehy graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2008 with a B.S. in History. He served multiple deployments as a US Navy SEAL Officer and Team Leader in Iraq, Afghanistan, South America, and the Pacific region. He met his wife Carmen—who later became a U.S. Marine Corps Officer—while both attended the Naval Academy.
