Senator Steve Daines, representing Montana, used his social media platform on October 1, 2025, to communicate with constituents regarding the ongoing government shutdown and his office’s response.
In a post from October 1, 2025, Daines wrote: “Great to join my hometown radio station KSKY this morning to talk about how the shutdown will impact Montanans.” Later that day, he assured residents that his office would continue operations during the shutdown: “My office remains open during the government shutdown to assist Montanans with essential services & we are working diligently to restore a fully functioning government as quickly as possible. Please don’t hesitate to call our Washington D.C. office or one of our regional offices”.
Daines continued to update followers in a subsequent post: “Day 1 of the Schumer Shutdown & we’re here in DC working to reopen the government as quickly as possible. My office is still open for Montanans who need assistance, so don’t hesitate to call.”
Government shutdowns in the United States occur when Congress fails to pass funding legislation, resulting in federal agencies halting non-essential operations. During such events, congressional offices often remain open to provide assistance with essential services and help constituents navigate potential disruptions.
