Senator Steve Daines, who represents Montana in the U.S. Senate, announced on social media that his bill reversing the Biden administration’s Miles City Resource Management Plan Amendment (RMPA) had been signed into law by President Joe Biden. The measure is described as protecting hundreds of jobs and supporting Montana’s energy sector.
On December 11, 2025, Daines wrote, “Today @potus signed my bill reversing Biden’s anti-coal Miles City rule into law, protecting over 550 jobs & strengthening the future of Montana energy.”
Later that day, he posted another message: ” Montana energy is back!!” on December 11, 2025.
The following day, Daines added further comment: “.@POTUS removed Biden’s Miles City RMPA- here’s what it means for Montana:” on December 12, 2025.
The Miles City RMPA was a federal land management policy affecting coal leasing in eastern Montana. Critics of the plan argued that it restricted coal development and threatened local employment. Supporters said it was intended to balance resource extraction with environmental concerns. The reversal comes amid ongoing debates over the role of fossil fuels in Montana’s economy and broader national discussions about U.S. energy policy.
