Senator Steve Daines, representing Montana in the U.S. Senate, addressed several issues affecting his state in a series of posts on August 5 and 6, 2025.
On August 5, Daines highlighted concerns about Flathead Lake’s water levels. He stated, “Flathead Lake is one of the crown jewels of MT, providing recreation & an economic boost to the community. Today I sent a letter to @Interior with @TimSheehyMT urging for a long-term solution to address decreased water levels at the lake.” (August 5, 2025). Flathead Lake is a major natural resource in Montana that supports local tourism and businesses through recreational activities such as boating and fishing.
Later that day, Daines responded to a federal decision regarding wolf management in Montana. He wrote, “This decision is extreme, wrongheaded and hurts our MT way of life. @USFWS was right-the wolf has recovered & does not need relisting. Management belongs to the states. I encourage @SecretaryBurgum to appeal this decision.” (August 5, 2025). The debate over gray wolf management has been ongoing in Montana; some stakeholders argue that wolves have sufficiently recovered and should be managed by state authorities rather than being federally protected.
On August 6, Daines visited Malmstrom Air Force Base to view new equipment upgrades. He posted, “Got to see some of Malmstrom’s new Grey Wolf helicopters- I helped secure the funding for these & am glad to see these much-needed upgrades at the base.” (August 6, 2025). Malmstrom Air Force Base plays a strategic role in U.S. national defense and has recently received investment for modernization projects.
These statements reflect ongoing discussions about natural resource management and military infrastructure improvements in Montana.
