Steve Daines, U.S. Senator representing Montana, addressed a range of issues affecting his state in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between August 17 and August 19, 2025.
On August 17, Daines highlighted the economic benefits resulting from recent tax policies, stating, “Fighting for the economic future of Montana has always been one of my top priorities. I’m thrilled to see that our businesses & communities are benefiting from tax permanency- thank you for the kind words.”
Two days later, on August 19, Daines turned his attention to healthcare concerns surrounding medication abortion. He wrote, “The science is clear-the abortion pill is harmful to women & can cause serious adverse effects. I’m glad to see @MTAGKnudsen prioritize the health of MT’s moms and their children by urging @US_FDA to reevaluate whether mifepristone is safe.” Mifepristone has been at the center of national debate regarding its safety and regulation. The FDA originally approved mifepristone in 2000 for medical termination of early pregnancy and has since monitored its use and safety profile through ongoing research and regulatory review.
Later that day, Daines commented on a proposed energy sector merger: “The proposed merger between Northwestern & Black Hills Energy will help expand MT’s energy footprint & ensure MTns have reliable access to the power grid. Looking forward to hearing more about the proposal.” Utility mergers like this one often draw public scrutiny due to potential impacts on energy rates and service reliability for consumers.
Daines’ remarks reflect current legislative priorities in Montana, including economic development initiatives such as advocating for permanent tax relief measures designed to stimulate business growth within the state.
