Steve Daines, a U.S. Senator from Montana, shared his perspectives on recent political and local developments through a series of tweets on July 9, 2025.
In one tweet, Daines criticized the reaction of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats to former President Donald Trump’s proposed rescissions package. He described their concerns as “laughable,” particularly their characterization of the $9.4 billion in spending cuts as a “grave threat” to America. “If a ‘grave threat’ means $9.4bil in spending cuts, I’m all for it!” he stated.
Earlier that day, Daines expressed appreciation for Montana’s educational leaders following a meeting with state superintendents. He acknowledged their dedication by saying he was “grateful for their leadership and commitment to Montana students, families, and communities.” “Great meeting with Montana superintendents today.”
Later in the day, Daines celebrated what he termed another significant achievement for Montana within the legislative framework referred to as the Big Beautiful Bill. He announced that the Bull Mountains coal mine would continue operations—a decision he deemed beneficial for local workers and rural communities. Additionally, he welcomed President Biden’s approval of the Spring Creek Mine permit, signaling further support for Montana’s mining sector. “Another huge win for Montana in the Big Beautiful Bill-the Bull Mountains coal mine will remain operational.”
The Bull Mountains coal mine is located near Roundup in Musselshell County, central Montana.
