Steve Daines, U.S. Senator representing Montana since 2015, announced on social media the recent progress of his legislative efforts regarding outdoor recreation and firearms regulation.
On December 18, 2025, Daines posted, “Huge news for MT – my bill to complete the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail passed the @EnergyGOP committee yesterday. It’ll bring Montanans together by protecting our outdoor way of life & I’ll fight to get it signed into law.” The following day, he added, “As an avid hiker & backpacker myself, thrilled to see my bill one step closer to @POTUS’s desk. Everyone should be able to enjoy Montana’s great outdoors!”
Later on December 19, Daines addressed firearms policy with another post: “The National Firearms Act is an unconstitutional relic from the Great Depression. Proud to call on the @DOJ to fight for MT & legal gun owners everywhere.”
Daines grew up in Bozeman, Montana and is a fifth-generation Montanan who attended public schools in the state and earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Montana State University (official website).
