Steve Daines, U.S. Senator representing Montana, highlighted recent developments related to conservation, energy, and national defense in a series of posts on August 5, 2025.
In a post commemorating legislative achievements, Daines wrote: “This week marks the 5th anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act, one of the most historic conservative conservation bills in our nation’s history. Read my op-ed with former Glacier Superintendent Jeff Mow below:

Later that day, he commented on state economic news by stating: “Huge news for MT today- Rosebud Mine will stay open, protecting Made-In-MT energy & hundreds of MT jobs. Once again, @POTUS & @SecretaryBurgum have proved they’re committed to America’s energy dominance- thank you!” (August 5, 2025).
Addressing national security and military infrastructure funding, Daines posted: “The Big Beautiful Bill provides critical funding for America’s nuclear program.
The Sentinel Project is one of the most important missions in our military & I was glad to receive important updates from Malmstrom Air Force Base yesterday. https://t.co/qXaAMB1sV7” (August 5, 2025).
The Great American Outdoors Act was enacted in August 2020 and aimed to address longstanding maintenance backlogs at national parks while permanently funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The legislation has been widely regarded as a significant bipartisan achievement for public lands and outdoor recreation.
Rosebud Mine is a major coal mining operation in Montana that supports local employment and regional power generation. Its continued operation is considered vital for maintaining jobs and supporting Montana’s energy sector.
Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana is home to a portion of the United States’ intercontinental ballistic missile force. The Sentinel Project refers to efforts to modernize this segment of America’s nuclear deterrent capabilities.
