Steve Daines, U.S. Senator for Montana, recently posted several updates on his Twitter account regarding sports, tribal water rights, and tax policy.
On July 17, 2025, Daines expressed support for a local athlete competing in an international event: “Good luck to MT’s own Ryggs Johnston at The Open Championship! We’re proud of you & your golf game- cheering you on!”
Later that day, Daines addressed ongoing efforts related to Native American water rights in Montana. In a tweet dated July 17, 2025, he stated: “The Fort Belknap Water Settlement is the last Indian rights water settlement in MT & I’ll fight to get it across the finish line, so our tribes have the resources they need to thrive.” The Fort Belknap Indian Community has been engaged in longstanding negotiations with federal and state authorities over water rights claims. The settlement referenced by Daines represents the final major agreement needed to resolve all outstanding Native American water rights claims within Montana.
In another post from July 17, 2025, Daines highlighted legislative achievements regarding taxation: “The Big Beautiful Bill delivered real wins like No Tax on Tips. Workers will see a $1,500 bump on average in their pockets.” The referenced legislation aims to eliminate federal income taxes on tips received by service industry workers and is projected to increase annual take-home pay for many employees.
