BLAYLOCK FOR CONGRESS COMMITTEE: LAW AND JUSTICE INTERIM COMMITTEE MEETS NOVEMBER 18

Law

Blaylock for congress committee issued the following announcement on Nov 8.

The Law and Justice Interim Committee (LJIC) meets on November 18 at 8 a.m. in room 102 of the state Capitol. A tentative agenda and other meeting materials are available at the committee's website: https://leg.mt.gov/committees/interim/2019ljic/

The LJIC will continue work on two of its interim studies, the HJ 31 study of the Montana Board of Crime Control and the SJ 19 study of sexual or violent offender registries. In addition, the LJIC will start the HJ 43 study of post-conviction relief laws by hearing from a panel of experts who will discuss the current relief processes and reflect on their experiences with those processes.

Committee members will also hear from Department of Corrections staff about the current visitation program at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge, the inmate mail process, and how the department handles inmate grievances. Other agency oversight includes a budget update from the Legislature's fiscal staff and an update on REAL ID from the Montana Department of Justice staff.

Meeting materials are available on the committee's website. There will be time for public comment on the studies as well as other issues under the jurisdiction of the LJIC.

The meeting will be streamed live online at the Legislature's website and will be broadcast on the Montana Public Affairs Network (MPAN).

For more information about the meeting, please visit the LJIC's website or contact committee staff.
