Cost of college went up for all students at Miles Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.5 percent for 2018-19 at Miles Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Montana residents paid $5,550 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $135 more than the $5,415 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 58.9 percent more than residents this year, or $8,820. Their price tag grew 2.6 percent from $8,595 in 2017-18.

About 75 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Montana residents. About 15 percent are residents of other states and 9 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 87 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 85 students received grants or scholarships totaling $493,356 and 89 students took out student loans totaling more than $473,285.

Including all undergraduates (505), 265 students used grants or scholarships totaling $1.4 million, and 264 students took out $1.7 million in federal student loans.
