Montana will receive over $125 million in an effort to expand high-speed internet access in rural areas that struggle with internet access, Sen. Jon Tester said, according to his website.
The grants are made possible by the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Development Opportunity Fund (RDOF).
The funds will be distributed to internet providers that will then provide high-speed internet service to homes and businesses.
Tester said he will work to hold the companies receiving funds accountable for making sure they do what is required of them.
“Fast, reliable internet service is critical, especially as we continue working, learning and socializing from home,” Tester said in a press release. "But too many folks in Montana have slow, unreliable internet or don’t have access altogether, and this groundbreaking investment will help bring those homes and businesses into the 21st century. Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and make sure these resources are deployed quickly and effectively, and ensure no Montanan is left behind.”
