The Billings Police Department Would Like to Welcome Community Service Officers

The Billings Police Department would like to welcome Community Service Officers Rockwell, Wevley, Santiago, and Newell to the ranks.  The Community Service Officer program was recommended by the CPSM Study on the department and funded by part of the public safety mill levy.  These four are the first of an approved seven civilian positions, which will work to support the department by responding to calls for service that do not require a sworn Officer, as well as assisting Officers with traffic control, and other tasks.  The goal is to reduce wait times for complainants, increase the ability for sworn Officers to proactively patrol, and increase the face-to-face time and customer service the public receives while making reports or seeking assistance.  These CSOs will start their 9 week training course today and the public should expect to start seeing the cars on the street at the beginning of the year.  Thank you to the citizens of this community for providing us with the ability to bring this program to Billings! - Lt. Lennick
