The Billings Fire Department bid farewell to Assistant Chief of Operations Kevin Johnson in a fiery send-off, expressing gratitude for his 22 years of dedicated service to the community.

During the farewell event, Chief Johnson made a special request for attendees to "feel the heat of the department’s Flash Can," a unique training tool located at the live fire training facility at the airport. The Flash Can enables firefighters to experience the intensity of flames up close, allowing them to observe fire behavior and warning signs firsthand.

Chief Johnson's contribution to the development of the Flash Can and the training facility in 2015 was noted, with his welding experience playing a key role in its construction. Since its establishment, the department has utilized the Flash Can for training purposes, thanks to Chief Johnson's involvement.

Having started his firefighting journey in 1995 when he joined the Volunteer Fire Department in his hometown of Absarokee, Chief Johnson has shown unwavering dedication to the fire service throughout his entire career. His leadership skills have been exemplary, particularly in the areas of wildland firefighting, HAZMAT response, and rope rescue operations.

In recognition of his years of service and commitment, the article concludes with a simple yet heartfelt message: "Thank you, Chief Johnson!"
